Terms of Service

These Terms allocate responsibility for lawful use of the SynthLink platform, clarify the limits of machine-generated and third-party content, and reserve SynthLink's right to restrict abusive or operationally harmful API activity.

Scope and Acceptance

These Terms of Service govern access to and use of the SynthLink website, documentation, API, datasets, summaries, metadata, and related services (collectively, the "Service"). By requesting, receiving, accessing, or using an API key or any part of the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

If you use the Service on behalf of a company, fund, institution, or other legal entity, you represent that you have authority to bind that entity to these Terms, and references to "you" include that entity.

Service Role and Operational Boundaries

SynthLink is a read-only API and web service that organizes publicly accessible source material and may enrich that material with machine-generated summaries, keywords, categories, or related metadata. The Service is intended to help users discover and review source material more efficiently; it is not a substitute for the original source, editorial review, legal review, due diligence, or independent verification.

The Service may surface incomplete, stale, restructured, normalized, or machine-generated information. You are solely responsible for determining whether any output is suitable for your use case, especially where legal, regulatory, commercial, research, security, or reputational consequences may follow.

Eligibility, Access, and API Keys

API keys are issued at SynthLink's sole discretion and remain revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and limited to the approved user or organization. You must keep credentials confidential, use reasonable security controls, and promptly notify SynthLink of any suspected compromise, unauthorized use, credential leakage, or security incident involving your access.

You are fully responsible for all requests, actions, and downstream uses initiated through your API key, account, infrastructure, scripts, employees, contractors, agents, or integrated systems, whether authorized by you or caused by your failure to secure access.

Permitted Use

You may use the Service only for lawful internal business, research, monitoring, analytics, or product use cases that comply with these Terms, applicable law, and the rights of SynthLink and third parties.

  • You must comply with all applicable laws, regulations, sanctions rules, export controls, and third-party rights.
  • You must respect rate limits, authentication rules, access scopes, robots restrictions, and technical safeguards.
  • You must evaluate outputs before relying on them in any workflow that could affect legal rights, security decisions, financial outcomes, compliance obligations, or public communications.

Prohibited Use, Abuse, and Resource Misuse

You may not use the Service in any manner that is unlawful, deceptive, abusive, harmful, or operationally unreasonable. Without limiting the foregoing, prohibited conduct includes attempts to exploit the Service in ways that consume disproportionate server resources, evade technical controls, or interfere with reliable operation for other users.

SynthLink may immediately throttle, block, suspend, or terminate access, with or without prior notice, if we determine that your activity is illegal, abusive, malicious, operationally harmful, or likely to create unnecessary infrastructure load, elevated cost, degraded performance, or security risk.

  • No bypassing or probing of authentication, rate limits, quotas, filters, access controls, or other protective measures.
  • No scraping, bulk extraction, mirroring, crawling, benchmarking, or competitive analysis that exceeds authorized use or imposes unreasonable traffic.
  • No automated polling, hammering, key sharing, key resale, request amplification, denial-of-service behavior, or repeated failed requests that waste server, database, or network resources.
  • No use of the Service to facilitate infringement, fraud, malware, credential attacks, surveillance abuse, unlawful monitoring, or other illegal activity.
  • No reverse engineering of private endpoints, hidden schemas, internal logic, security posture, or unpublished platform behavior except as expressly permitted by mandatory law.

Monitoring, Enforcement, and Protective Action

To protect the Service, users, infrastructure, and upstream providers, SynthLink may monitor requests, log usage metadata, investigate anomalies, apply filters, enforce quotas, require additional verification, restrict specific integrations, block IP addresses, rotate credentials, or take other reasonable protective action.

You acknowledge and agree that SynthLink may preserve logs and related records where reasonably necessary for security, abuse prevention, troubleshooting, legal compliance, enforcement of these Terms, or protection of our systems and third-party partners.

Source Material, Third-Party Content, and Copyright

The Service may reference, index, summarize, classify, or link to documents and materials originating from third-party sources. All copyrights, database rights, trademarks, and other intellectual property rights in such third-party materials remain with their respective owners. Except for the limited access expressly provided through the Service, no right, title, or license in third-party content is transferred to you.

You are solely responsible for ensuring that your access, storage, display, export, republication, training use, commercial use, or downstream redistribution of any content obtained through the Service complies with applicable copyright law, database rights, attribution requirements, contractual restrictions, and the terms of the original source.

If you are a rights holder and believe content surfaced through the Service infringes your rights, you may contact SynthLink at the address below with sufficient detail for review.

SynthLink Intellectual Property and Reservation of Rights

As between you and SynthLink, SynthLink retains all right, title, and interest in the Service itself, including the platform, API design, schema, documentation, branding, visual assets, compiled datasets, service marks, and all related software, except for third-party materials owned by their respective rightsholders.

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, SynthLink grants you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-sublicensable, and non-transferable license to access and use the Service for its intended purpose. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

Data Quality, LLM Output, and No Reliance Warranty

The Service may include machine-generated summaries, classifications, extracted entities, or other derived signals. Such outputs may be incomplete, inaccurate, biased, outdated, misleading, or unsuitable for your intended use. Original source materials may change, disappear, move, or be corrected after the Service has processed them.

You must independently verify important facts against the original source before acting on any result. SynthLink does not represent or warrant that any document, timestamp, summary, classification, keyword, or metadata field is accurate, complete, current, non-infringing, or fit for a particular purpose.

Availability, Changes, and No Service Commitment

SynthLink may add, remove, suspend, or modify endpoints, models, data sources, quotas, fields, schemas, access rules, or operational characteristics at any time. We do not guarantee continued availability of any source, feature, data field, model output, historical record, or compatibility behavior unless expressly agreed in writing.

The Service may be unavailable or degraded because of maintenance, incidents, upstream outages, source changes, abuse mitigation, capacity constraints, or other causes. You are responsible for implementing appropriate retries, fallbacks, cache policies, and operational safeguards in your own systems.

Suspension and Termination

SynthLink may suspend, restrict, or terminate your access immediately if we believe, in our sole judgment, that you have violated these Terms, created legal exposure, endangered security, harmed other users, caused wasteful resource consumption, or otherwise posed operational, commercial, or reputational risk.

Termination or suspension does not limit any other remedy available to SynthLink. Sections that by their nature should survive termination, including those concerning intellectual property, disclaimers, liability limitations, indemnification, enforcement, and accrued rights, will survive.

Disclaimer of Warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise. SynthLink disclaims all warranties, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, availability, security, uninterrupted access, and error-free operation.

No advice, statement, documentation, support communication, or course of dealing will create any warranty unless expressly set forth in a written agreement signed by SynthLink.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, SynthLink and its affiliates, operators, licensors, suppliers, and service providers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, punitive, or enhanced damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, business opportunity, goodwill, data, or anticipated savings, arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, SynthLink's aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of one hundred U.S. dollars (USD 100) or the amount you paid to SynthLink for the Service in the three months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

Indemnification

You will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless SynthLink, its affiliates, operators, personnel, contractors, and service providers from and against any claims, demands, investigations, actions, liabilities, damages, judgments, settlements, losses, costs, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of or relating to your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, your infringement of third-party rights, your downstream use of any data or output, or your unlawful, abusive, or negligent conduct.

Changes to These Terms

SynthLink may update these Terms from time to time by posting a revised version on this page. The updated Terms become effective when posted unless a later effective date is stated. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
